While Hiking along the trail, we saw many elk, one of which blocked our trail

Once on the way to cub Lake and once on the way back, at the same spot, male elk stood in the middle of the trail. Unsure what to do (didn’t want the elk to charge us), we tried to wait them out. After about 30 minutes, some other brave hikers skirted a 30ft circle around them with no notice from the elk, so we did the same. The elk appeared bored with us.
